My Problem

The handset dropped out of my jacket pocket and landed in the toilet bowl. I fished it out quickly BUT the damage was done. Several hours in a container of calcium chloride drying agent brought the handset back to life, but no earpiece sound and an unreliable lightning connection.

My Fix

The repair went well and the phone is fully functional again. Only one scare when one of the strip line cables on the logic board suffered a broken coaxial connector (it parted from the cable when getting it off). Fortunately I had a spare from my wife's phone after a terminal drowning incident. Must be a genitic issue with phones and water!

My Advice

I used a LED based mag lamp to assist my failing eyesight and an old cardboard box lid to minimise the loss of any bits on the floor. I also used small squares of cardboard to attach screws etc. with magic tape.
