My Problem

Dead original battery.

My Fix

Replaced the battery, though it won't hold a charge. Looks like the logic board needs replacing, too. Plugged in, I get full functionality, so probably going to leave as is. This iPod makes an excellent gentle alarm clock!

The hardest part was taking the cover off to get inside. I found if you held the iPod near the top, and put my fingers near the screen and then my thumbs on the back, the back metal cover popped back from the front part t . . .

The old battery was dead, was starting to bulge and if I hadn't replaced it, it may have damaged my otherwise fully functioning good old iPod.

Really take your time to open up the casing, it can be quite tricky to fit those plastic tools and you may need to use a little forc . . .

I expected a printed page of instructions to be included with the Fixit Kit. I tried to find the instructions at the Fixit website and was unable. So I being the repair kind of guy that I am, proceeded on my own. I was able to figure out how to get the case open. Howev . . .

My Problem

The iPod would no longer run even when plugged in. Battery had swollen, making click wheel unreliable.

My Fix

I ended up using a plastic card (loyalty wallet card) to hold the top seam apart. The small opening tools were not up to the task. The rear shell now is slightly bent outward, but it's barely noti . . .

The repair was a piece of cake. The tools supplied make a world of difference. The metal case was removed without any blemishes and still looks like new. Once inside my fat fingers were able to work with the small cables and parts thanks to the great instruction . . .
