Kit Contents

This Fix Kit includes iFixit’s iOpener, a tablet opening tool designed to apply heat directly and evenly to case components joined with adhesive. Once the adhesive is softened with heat applied by the iOpener, the adhesive can be sliced using the many tools included in the iOpener kit. This toolkit is designed specifically for the iPad, but works with all tablets, smartphones, or other electronics needing heat application in the disassembly process. The iOpener is heated in the microwave and is reusable.

iOpener Toolkit includes:

Repair Stories

Ken Bauer's Story Photo #1357187

My Problem

The screen somehow cracked, starting about 1/2" from lower right corner. Small fragments in lower corner with large cracks extending to the left and up.

My Fix

Overall the repair followed the guide pretty well. The iOpener worked very well. The first time I microwaved it it didn't get too hot; I waited the . . .

Diego Rojas's Story Photo #1537849

My Problem

Front glass was shattered, got a replacement part and tools from iFixit.

My Fix

Removing the old glass was difficult because it was all shattered. I figure there is no easy way around this. Had some issues removing some of the tape holding the LCD panel and cracked it (see picture). I know this was my fault . . .

My Problem

I replaced the battery, the logic board the audio connector and the hold switch in my iPod because the battery in mine would only last for 3 hours and I needed it to last for at least 12 hours because I work extremely long shifts where I'm playing music constantly.

My Fix

Not so swimmingly, it's a very easy . . .

My Problem

Needed new battery

My Fix

The repair went well.

My Advice

The iPhone screen is not easy to get off - just go slow. Be ready for keeping track of extremely small screws.

My Problem

My iPad mini’s front display was cracked.

My Fix

This is undoubtedly a difficult repair to complete. The stress of trying to remove the LCD without damaging it was, for me, the hardest part. Opening the case with the ifixit iopener and a hairdryer wasn’t as difficult as I was expecting but was by no mea . . .

My Problem

The previous touchscreen had come loose and the ribbon cable severed. This time I properly cleaned the sticky gum to allow the new adheasive to stick properly..

My Fix

Great. Keep it clean

My Advice

Keep it clean

My Problem

It’s my uncles iPad mini and it had a crack in it for years.

My Fix

It was very difficult getting that slightly shattered glass off. While I was removing it I shattered it even more but still wasn’t a problem cause I was replacing it. When it came down to the LCD I was to scared that I was doing to brak . . .

My Problem

Tired, old battery.

My Fix

Took iPhone and new $32.89 (with shipping) IFIXIT battery to TechBar at noon today. Easy parking at front door in South Miami; Jamal took phone and battery and estimated 15 minutes to replace. I retreated to nearby French restaurant, Pastis, while the repair underway and ordere . . .

My Problem

Granddaughter dropped it and cracked the screen

My Fix

The repair went fairly smooth . Difficult getting the cracked glass off . Your instructions only show removing an intact glass . So a cracked glass can get messy and time consuming , but doable with patience .

My Advice

If glue gets on LCD , I found that it is eas . . .

My Problem

The Glass display was shattered

My Fix

This was my 3rd iPad Mini glass replacement, but it took a lot of time because of how shattered the screen was

My Advice

Take your time, don't rush. If you can, try to pull off the glass in one big sheet
