My Problem

Replacing broken front panel digitizer ,

My Fix

Well everything goes well , ifixit step by step tutorial is easy to follow , best part is every steps goes with picture , my repair goes well , at start when I almost done removing the broken digitizer. But in my rush and I damage the wifi cable.

My Advice

My advice is not to rush ! Follow what the manual and expert say.

My Problem

Ipad 2 fell of a table and impacted on the upper right corner causing large spider cracks in the front display but was otherwise still usable.

My Fix

Prepare for a long haul if you have lots of small cracks on the right side where you start the removal process. Total time was about 4.5 hours to soften all the adhesive and pick out the individual shards. Even with taping the display I found the plastic picks would get hung up on each crack. After getting the display off everything was relatively easy.

My Advice

Get the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi Antenna if it is your first time doing this repair. You most likely will damage it without knowing it.

My Problem

In the process of replacing a malfunctioning digitizer screen on my iPad, I was not careful enough and broke the cable of the Wifi antenna while trying to remove the screen. I needed to fix it and I was sure that iFixit would have the repair guide. Sure it did.

My Fix

iFixit repair guide does the repair in 55 steps, which seemed to me a daunting task. Before starting the repair I wanted to have the repair guide at hand, but by mistake, instead of finding it at iFixit website, I searched for it on YouTube. I found a repair guide which I thought was of iFixit (it wasn't), does the same repair with much less steps, essentially, only removing very few components. The repair was fast and simple, it went well, the new WIFI antenna purchased from iFixit works perfectly.

My Advice

I will be eternally grateful to iFixit, for posting so many very useful and educative videos and tutorials. Using iFixit guides I have done several repairs, like replacing the LCD screen of my MacBook Pro, replacing twice the digitizer screen of my iPad2, mounting a second HDD on my MacBook Pro. However, the Wifi antenna repair guide, in my opinion is too long and complex, essentially proposing to remove all components from an iPad, when there is a much simpler way of doing it.

Perhaps, it would be a good idea to update this tutorial.

My Problem

Had the ipad 2 digitizer replaced a year or so ago at a shopping mall outfit. It worked but the new digitizer had some little annoying streaks and in time became detached. So instead of having redone by some one else, decided to do it myself.

My Fix

The repair went really well, even though the digitizer was already partially coming off, it still needed a good heat up to detach the remainder. The wifi antenna was damaged, and it seems to have been done by the previous repair. So in hind-site, I should have ordered the antenna at the same time I ordered the new digitizer, it is cheap enough, even if you don't need to use it. Clean up is important and take your time doing it, but reassembly goes together really fast. In fact the hardest job was cleaning the lcd screen from any fingerprints or smudges.

Once that was done it just closes up and thats it, done. I was sorely tempted to replace the batteries at he same time, but am quite confident that its something that can be done later when its really needed. Great suppliers of replacement parts and info on how to get the repair done.

My Advice

For the removal of any smears, smudges or finger prints, I found denatured alcohol diluted with water and applied with spectacle cloth to do the trick nicely and then all it needed was a gentle wipe with a dry spec cloth to polish off any residue. The denatured alcohol was also great for removing any remaining adhesive from the frame.

My Problem

The wifi cable was severed when I removed the cracked screen.

My Fix

It started out as a simple cracked glass repair job! ( insert laughter here)

So I got the glass off ok , cleaned up the frame a bit and installed the new glass . I pushed power and nothing ... Dam , so I don't quit I plugged in the usb power and yes ! It came on . But no wifi .. Shoot ok I pull it apart and sure enough the wifi cable was damaged . I ordrerd new one and read all the how too . I found a good one on you tube (sorry i fixit ). Was a lot quicker and I didn't have to remove the mobo ! Nice . Any way I installed the new wifi and it's working great . Next up the power button .

My Advice

Funny thing is , I found an icloud locked iPad 2 in perfect condition that I was gonna just swap out the mobo with mine , but that would have been too easy and I wouldn't have learned a new skill ;-)

My Problem

After cutting the wifi antenna wire while removing the broken ipad screen, I learned that this happens to almost every first time repairer.

My Fix

The connector is the size of the head of a pin, so be prepared for some frustration. Once connected, it was just a matter of lining up the mounting holes with the holes in the iPad and getting the screws in place. That wasn't bad since the screwdriver was magnetized.

My Advice

It will happen to you, so wherever you order the screen (aka digitizer) from, go ahead and spring for the wifi antenna. The iFixit antenna actually improved performance over the original antenna, but I wouldn't replace the original antenna just for that.

My Problem

Knicked the antenna while replacing the front panel.

My Fix

Really well got it all buttoned up and it works fine. Interested in seeing how it works in the long term.

My Advice

Be careful with the screw in cord holder it comes off easily and I had to tape it on before I mounted the antenna.

My Problem

Broke my antenna while replacing my digitizer.

My Fix

After i got my antenna from ifixit and installed it, my wifi was 100% again.

My Advice

Bought 2 antennas from other companies and wifi was poor, found on forums to try ifixit product and the wifi was excellent. Will always buy my apple partts products from them.

My Problem

I had dropped my iPad 2 and cracked the front panel... twice, and on two corners.

My Fix

I used the guides. All went well. I am glad I ordered all of the parts I did. As it turned out I damaged the Wi-fi antenna when taking the front off. I put everything back together, including the new antenna... unfortunately there was no Wi-Fi... I contacted customer support, via email, and within two hours Matt had new antenna shipped out via priority mail. I installed the new antenna this morning. I am happy to report that all is well!

My Advice

Definitely order that antenna just in case you toast yours like I did. The Front Panel assembly is a better deal than just the glass, as it turned out I did not need the bezel replacement, but it is good to have jut in case. The opening kit worked well. heating the gel filled pad for 30 sec worked for me.

It was a good experience, do not be afraid to attempt this fix. Oh smallest Phillips bit in my Ifixit tool set worked great. The magnetic tip is essential. I also used the magnetic mat to keep the screws in one place. The white and black grid helps keep the screws in order, and more importantly keeps them in one spot so you are not faced with the prospect of getting on your hands an knees searching for TINY screws on the floor.

My Problem

While removing the screen I ripped the antenna, which to you who know is pretty easy to do.

My Fix

I first bought a cheap antenna from a vendor that I usually use. I thought it would be an easy fix. I told the customer that i would have it done in no time. Once I put the cheap antenna in there was little to no wifi reception. I ordered from ifixit.com and paid a little more for the part. It works perfectly now.

My Advice

Be very cautious when purchasing cheap parts for any device...
