My Problem

Audio quality from the earpiece speaker was terrible.

(Muted-scratchy)

My Fix

Using

the repair guides at Ifixit.com the speaker replacement went perfectly.

Only to find out the issue was likely caused by 4? Years of pocket lint, earwax and goo buildup in the speaker grille.

My Advice

Replace the speaker.

It's cheap and sounds GREAT.

But also take the time to clean the speaker grille.

You should be able to shine a light though that grille (speaker removed) and see light I saw.... A potato.

It was pretty bad

My Problem

Speaker was dead on used phone what I bought, so decided to fix it rather that taking back to seller.

My Fix

Repair was quite straight forward following your guide.

My Advice

The only point where little thinking was required was the relocation of the new speaker. The location is not defined exactly by surrounding parts, so you can install it sideways slightly off, maybe 1-2 mm if you don't look carefully how it originally sits. And since it attaches with adhesive tape it might be difficult to relocate once put on place.

My Problem

Ear speaker on iPhone 4 went out. I could use speakerphone (the bottom speaker) but not the one at the top of the unit. It was annoying, inconvenient. Audio quality was bad.

My Fix

The friend who recommended iFixIt volunteered to do the labor if I bought the part and the required tool. He followed the instructions. It all worked fine. He removed many tiny parts from the phone, so I was a little concerned, but it all went back together and it is working now.

My Advice

Follow the instructions, be patient and don't lose an parts.

My Problem

My ear piece speaker was damaged (from a previous tear down), and was near impossible to hear clearly out of - made the iPhone difficult to use.

My Fix

Repair went well. Had some issues with the iPhone starting back up after install, but eventually it found its "brains" and started up normally. It kept indicating the battery was dead and needed to be charged - which was not true. Regardless, after a few minutes it was all back to normal.

My Advice

Watch those screws. They be tiny, tiny, tiny.

My Problem

cant afford a new replacement phone

My Fix

repair went fine

My Advice

dont need to remove the battery

My Problem

Liquid got into the top of my iPhone while it was sitting in the dash of my car. Unknown to me one of those scented liquid containers had spilled into the area where the top of the phone was laying in. This caused the camera and speaker to fail on the unit.

My Fix

Took it all apart (Instructions did not match my exact iPhone 4 but they were close enough) and found that the speaker and camera were just saturated in this liquid (smelled good though). While taking it apart I noticed there was a lot of liquid still inside the phone and I did my best to use Q-Tips and compressed air to clean up and remove as much as I could. Put everything back together with the new battery and everything worked on the first power up except the speaker but I found out a very funny way to fix it from another forum.

My Advice

If you are having issues with the ear piece speaker on the phone sounding muffled there is a trick to fix it. Put your mouth over the speaker part of the phone and suck in heavily quite a few times. After that test the phone to see if you can hear better. After doing this about 50 times the speaker worked perfectly and I have had no issues since then.

My Problem

The earpiece speaker was no longer working on this phone. I replaced the battery just because it was an old phone and more than likely it needed it.

My Fix

The repair went well. I missed on screw on the main board and bent it a bit when i was trying to get it out. This iPhone 4 was quite a bit different than the guide. The screw that i missed was at the top but was covered by a sticker. All is well though I did not damage the phone in the process and everything works. Just need to give it to someone else to enjoy for a few more years.

My Advice

I took the phone apart before i ordered the parts on this one. I read that this was one of the harder repairs and I seen why. Made sure I did not break anything during the tear down before i ordered.

My Problem

Ear Mic not working. Followed guide which was perfect to dis-assemble. Putting back together wasn't as clear but got it eventually.

My Fix

Great - with one hiccup - see comment below

My Advice

Yes - You didn't mention that the prongs on the replacement speaker need to point to the FRONT!!

My Problem

Dropped phone caused front screen not to function--it still had touchscreen ability, but you could not see anything!

My Fix

Took longer than the one hour that was indicated, probably 2x that. In the end, everything is working like new!

My Advice

The repair toolkit was worth getting. Stay organized by either taping the screws to a printout of the directions, or use cups of some sort to separate the screws and pieces from each step.
