My Problem

slow HHD - wanted to put a 2.5" SSD (500GB) to replace the existing HHD

My Fix

It went very well - required tremendous patience to do it - the screen removal and reassemble are the most difficult tasks. I highly suggest to have two persons to do this.

My Advice

two persons recommended - with suction cups for slow assembling process - especially when lining up the screen and chassis. It is not essential to use the bottom adhesive - by eliminating this - makes it easier to "line up the screen" while re-attach the two screen cables.

My Problem

The computer is a brand new 27" iMac. It didn't need fixing, I was not happy with the speed of the Internal 1TB mechanical drive. I got a good deal on it because I didn't get the Fusion drive. I have also heard that Apple is ripping customers off with a super high-priced Fusion drive that only has about 64GB of flash.

My Fix

The iMac Opening Tool worked flawlessly. I doubt I could have opened the iMac otherwise. I secured for a very reasonable price, a 1TB SSD drive and replaced the mechanical 1TB drive. I also used a 2 1/2" to 3 1/2" adapter. Now the computer works like lightning. It boots in about 15 seconds.

My Advice

The iFixit teardown video was very helpful. I'm pretty good with computer hardware and had no difficulty in opening the iMac and replacing the drive.

Thanks iFxiit!

My Problem

To replace my 2639 iMac (27" late 2013) HDD with Samsung 850 PRO SSD

My Fix

It went smooth, thanks to iFixit guides, videos, and tools

My Advice

Take your time to plan and prepare for it, handle the screen with extra care, no need to completely remove the left speaker if you plan to replace the HDD; only moving it a little after unscrewing it will do the job.

My Problem

to replace my 27" iMac 1TB HDD with Samsung 850 PRO 512 SSD

My Fix

It went perfect; thanks to iFixit guides and videos

My Advice

take your time to prepare for this, a clean area and quiet place will help a lot. handle the screen with extra care, and there's no actual need to remove the left speaker completely if you just intend to replace the HDD with an SSD

My Problem

My 2012 iMac turned to be very slow with the latest OS X because of the poor spinning drive performance. Decided to replace it the last Samsung 850 EVO SSD.

My Fix

With the tools and instructions from ifixit, the whole replacement only took me about 1 hour, much easier than I expected.

My Advice

The only advice is to make sure the LCD display is aligned when you put it back to the body. With the adhesive tapes, you don't get second chance to adjust. I had been quite cautious but there's still about 0.5mm difference, though it's barely noticeable.

My Problem

I need to change the HDD

My Fix

Fine

My Advice

I ordered all the way from India, the tool was small than expected, i wish the size and dimension was mentioned in the product specification, but anyway iFixit is GREAT

My Problem

My iphone 6 screen was broken and i bought from another seller and it appeared to be of poor quality so i decided to buy from ifixit and it went all well

My Fix

Smooth. I had the islack which works like a charm. Easy to open the iphone

My Advice

Buy from reliable sources like ifixit

My Problem

The factory Seagate 3tb hd died.

My Fix

The iMac opening tool was perfect and the adhesive strips are top quality. The little blue tabs made it very easy to strip of the backing. They are also cut to fit perfectly, unlike the generic strips some companies sell.

My Advice

I used an HGST enterprise 4tb drive. I've had great luck with the HGST drives. This machine has the Fusion drive. Disk Utility recognized the new drive and automatically reconfigured the Fusion to the new drive. No command line required.

Also used the OWC cable to enable the iMac to get drive temp to properly control fan speed.

My Problem

The 5400 RPM HD that comes in the new tapered iMac 21.5" is too slow.

My Fix

Picture perfect.

My Advice

The adhesive strips come with a "pizza cutter" iMac opening tool so you should not have to order the iMac opening tool separately.
