My Problem

My Fix

My Advice

My Problem

The 5400 rpm drive that came with the Mac Mini was too slow.

My Fix

Using your clear step-by-step instructions with photos, I was able to take the machine apart, replace the drive with a Samsung 850 Pro, and put the machine back together all in the same evening.

My Advice

I was initially concerned about the small size of the machine, but one should have no fear. With your instructions it's really simple!

My Problem

Failed hard drive in an iMac. Apple doesn't make it exceptionally easy to replace it, but it was worth doing.

My Fix

The ifixit kit had everything I needed plus clear step-by-step guidance on performing the replacement. Worked a treat!

My Advice

For putting the screen back on, it is better to have an extra pair of hands to help position it.

My Problem

My Fix

My Advice

My Problem

I wanted to upgrade the HD in my brand new Mac Mini 2014

My Fix

Before hand I looked at everything and it looked kind of hard and I thought that there was so many screws.

However after the entire tear down and putting it back together it was quite the opposite.

My Advice

Just take each step slowly and don't rush through the process and every repair should go just fine.

My Problem

I wanted both a speedy SSD and a large hard drive in my new 2014 Mac Mini. The stock Apple fusion drive only uses a 128GB SSD and a slow 5400RPM hard drive, so I thought I could do better. I purchased my mini with a 512GB PCIe SSD and decided to add my own 1TB 7200RPM hard drive with the iFixIt dual drive kit.

My Fix

The teardown is very simple. I believe the bottom plate on the new mini is even easier to take off with the right tools since there is no funky WiFi cover wedged in at just the right angle. That was always the most difficult part. Now it's all one large piece. Thanks Apple! The hard drive and cable from the dual drive kit fit perfectly and the whole job took about 10 minutes.

My Advice

The tool list is short and sweet. I used the plastic opening tool to remove the bottom cover and the iFixIt TR6 Torx security screwdriver fits all the screws for this job.

My Problem

I had a family reunion, and a nephew was playing my PS4, got a little excited and pulled the PS4 off of my tv stand. I had the controller connected to the charge cable, won't do that ever again when they use it. My warranty ran out with sony literally a few days before this occurred. I ended up opening it up myself, I found that the motherboard was cracked.

My Fix

Well, the repair in general was a little crazy, I had to locate another motherboard of the same model. I found one on ebay that was decently priced, only thing wrong with it was that the HDMI port was broken, so I ordered a new port on the side as well. I didn't have soldering equipment so I brought it to a local pc repair shop, they soldered it for me for $5. Then using the guide on the Ifixit site, I took it apart, fixed it all together with the thermal paste and everything, and put it together, and it was good as new!

My Advice

Be very careful when getting the motherboard from ebay, you may see some which seem fine, but aren't. Normally when they are providing other components with it, somethings wrong. Look for one with a broken HDMI port, that's normally the most easiest to fix, but most people on ebay don't really know that for some reason. If they have to solder, it seems to be beyond them.

My Problem

My machine was running super poorly after two years.

My Fix

The guide from Ifixit made it super easy to change everything. Took about ten minutes to take my machine apart and to get it back together with brand new cooling paste. Used compressed air to clean out all the dust.

My Advice

The screws were screwed too hard by the repair shop which resulted in a broken driver. I learned they need to be opened with a firm pressure down, angled slightly and with a slow and steady twist.

Further, applying the paste properly is essential so you don't conduct electricity from the motherboard to the parts that you apply it, as they conduct power. Just use a small dash in the middle, half the size of a pea, and then screw the heatsinks on. It'll spread it evenly for you.

In the end, my machine was broken from water damage and got sent back to rep. All the parts got changed and it is now functioning perfect.

I fixit sent me a new drive free of charge. Couldn't be more happy with the service from these guys.

My Problem

My hdd has failed and I had to replace it

My Fix

As usual, look at iFixit.com ... There was a solution.. I bought the tools.

After 30 minutes, the new HDD was in my iMac, ready to restore my data :)

My Advice

Don't worry .... it's very simple to do =)

My Problem

Apple created new screws and you fixed that problem for me

My Fix

This was a diagnostic mission on a Mid '12 Air, that went well. Parts arrived from you this morning and it is back up and running.

My Advice
