My Problem

My mid-2012 unibody MacBook Pro was being throttled, no more RAM, and before throwing it out the window thought I'd try adding the RAM.

My Fix

The repair went smoothly - and I'd never opened my laptop before so wasn't sure. But the guide was clear and it went great.

My Advice

I ordered 2 Phillips head screwdrivers because I had read conflicting advice: #0 and #00. I actually used the #0 as recommended and it worked great.

My Problem

To increase speed of laptop

My Fix

Very Easy

My Advice

Use ifixit.com

My Problem

Brand new late 2012 Mini. Wanted more out of life. So I decided a 128 Gb SSD and a 1 Tb hybrid drive and some more RAM.

This turned out just great. Except that I wasn't sent a logic board removal tool.

My Fix

Only problem with the repair is that the Dual Drive Kit did not include the Mac Mini logic board removal tool Which looks like a U and fits into to holes in the logic board.

I was not thrilled. But did you know that you can take an old wire clothes hanger and make your own? Well, you can.

The tool kit is really quite nice. I am glad I ordered it along with the part.

The real meat of the dual drive kit is the cable you just bought from iFixit. Mine came pre bent which was nice. It all fell together perfectly.

When reassembling you need to get the drive for the lower bay to lock into two grommets on the front of the case. Once you finally get it in place, use some tape to hold it there while you reassemble case/powersupply/etc. Take it off when putting the antenna plate back on.

My Advice

Advice: use the online guide and follow it carefully. Click images for larger size views. Make your own logic board removal tool. Use good light and wear your old man glasses if you are old like I am.

My Problem

The system was moderately sluggish on memory intensive apps.

My Fix

I replaced the 2 2GB simms with 2 4GB simms. No tools were required, and it worked fine the first time.

My Advice

I would recommend this repair. The only down side is what to do with the old memory sticks?

My Problem

needed more ram and it was smooth... except for the screw driver

My Fix

the ram was great, and luckily i had my own screw driver the one here did not work very well for the screws in the laptop (started to strip them).

My Advice

the ram and ifixit (shipping etc) was phenomenal. if you dont need the screw driver, dont buy it... or buy the brand name one maybe that'd work better.

My Problem

My mid 2012 refurbished MBP was downright pokey, constant beach ball of death. It had only the stock 4 gigs of ram.

My Fix

I installed 2- 4 gig sticks with nary a hiccup. The guide was spot on (in some ways superior to Apple's own instructions) but did omit the suggestion to discharge any static charge by touching a metal part. That aside, the job took just 15 minutes or so, and went off splendidly.

My Advice

It's fun and empowering to take charge of my stuff. My advice, go slow, read the instructions before you start and believe in yourself. This was my first attempt at a laptop. Sorry I didn't take any photos.

My Problem

Needed more ram for certain programs

My Fix

I used my Ifixit tools: #00 Phillips screwdriver, spudger and additional 4MB ram. Everything went well and no disaster. The Apple hardware test confirmed it.

My Advice

Using the Ifixit instructions and the right tools anyone can replace ram. Take your time, organize your work area and you'll be ok.

My Problem

I wanted more memory for multitasking purposes.

My Fix

The repair was quite easy following the step by step instructions.

My Advice

Get the pro toolkit.

My Problem

My old MacBook Pro's battery was swelling out of the case and was a bit outdated.

My Fix

Replaced the swollen battery and pushed the aluminum back to its intended shape.

Kicked the RAM up to 8gb

Replaced hard drive with 1TB Hybrid drive

The whole process was quick and painless. The guides offered on this site are absolutely perfect.

My Advice

Save money. Instead of Apple charging you $100+ for labor fees, choose iFixit. Couldn't be happier.

My Problem

My friends Mid 2012 was as fast as a turtle. He was considering changing it, however budget was a problem, so I recomended upgrading two components that may be slowing the performance: hard drive (always at full capacity) and RAM.

My Fix

After receiving the products and following iFixit guides, part exchange was a piece of cake. In a few minutes I replaced the components and only took few more to reinstall OS X (I decided to make a clean OS setup).

My Advice

Even when I don't live in USA, I received the parts in a couple of days and the tools included in the hard drive upgrade kit made the whole process so much easier than other tools I used before.

Also my friend is delighted with his rejuvenated Macbook.
