My Problem

il mio magsafe era bruciato da un alimentatore difettoso e non si accendenva più il macbook

My Fix

bene la guida è dettagliata e facile da seguire

My Advice

Seguite la guida!

My Problem

Mag safe on MacBook was damaged by my kids. No way to power the computer. Repair store said it would cost $275 to have it fixed. This was an older MacBook (2009) and I didnt want to sink that much money in it.

My Fix

Repair went great. Instructions were exactly right and easy to follow. Highly recommend. My first ifixit experience but won't be my last. Huge fan of this site now!

My Advice

Be careful disconnecting the small wires attached to the motherboard. Very delicate.

My Problem

My power cable connector kept overheating and melting the inside of the connector. Eventually figured out that the MagSafe board needed replacing.

My Fix

Smooth, no problem - followed a tip from a user to skip from step 6 to step 18, that saved a lot of work and it went fine.

My Advice

When disconnecting the display data cable, you lift up the little plastic tab connecting to the shiny metal - that's a clip. Then pull the connector out. In the instructions this says "grasp the plastic tab and rotate towards..." but it's not clear.

My Problem

Daughters Macbook MagSafe was damaged and wouldn't charge. Was told by Staples that it would cost more to fix than a new Macbook. Found your web site, ordered the part, dismantled, installed and reassembled. Instructions were well written and easy to follow. All fixed for about $50. Thanks, you saved me a ton of money.

My Fix

Repair was simple with excellent instructions.

My Advice

Don't listen to a repair facility until you check out this site!

My Problem

My mac did not charge, and would not boot up when the battery was disconnected.

My Fix

I browsed the web and found out that there was a part called the magsafe board betweeen the charger and the other components. I followed IFixit instructions and replaced the magsafe board.

The only problem I have discovered is that my camera isn't working.

My Advice

Use force to put the keyboard ribbon back in its socket. I struggled with this for some time.

My Problem

My wife's Macbook stopped charging. After a short troubleshooting I figured out that the Magsafe connector was at fault. Also, as the laptop was mostly used on soft covered surfaces, cooling was poor, causing some overheating of the lower case, hence causing bubbling of the non slippery rubberized surface underneath. A quick pass by iMachines made me understand that I might need to do the job as the parts weren't available and they needed 2 months to get them (!)

Having discovered your site and the amazing service and advices you provide, I decided to have it go: the spare parts arrived to the Arabian Gulf in a matter of days and they were a perfect fit.

My Fix

Having some mechanical repair experience as a backup, and referring to the outstanding explanatory images that you provide online, I cruised through the whole dismantling process. Not that it was a totally smooth cruise as I got stuck at the keyboard ribbon cable removal, as I could not make the connection between the small flap that had to be lifted and the ribbon connection itself. I re-read the advices on the relevant dismantling section and I understood that ideally a small rod had to be sneaked underneath the ribbon and just pulled out. To plug it back in, I used successfully the trick with the self adhesive tape.

The repair was an absolute success in a fraction of time and money the workshop would have used.

Unfortunately, for some reason I am unable to upload all of the pictures of my venture ...

My Advice

I love your site. So accurate and useful that I wouldn't dread undertaking a more complicated repair as long as your advices are at hand. I will definitely be back to you for more parts in the future and I will strongly recommend your site for anyone stuck or not with electronics repair and maintenance. For anyone reluctant to do repairs on all sorts of electronics, with no second thought, I 'd give two thumbs up to go ahead and do it .

ifixit, probably the best site I came across in recent years.

My Problem

MagSafe Adapter Hot When Charging Battery, Running On Power Adapter 100% Charge Indicated Until MacBook Shuts Off From Low Battery, Difficult Getting Battery To Charge.

My Fix

Once I ordered the parts from iFixit and received them, along with an $8 minibit screwdriver set from harbor freight, I enlisted the help of my son-in-law, as I have a numb left hand from neuropathy, and we did the job without a hitch following the iFixit instructions.

My Advice

Don't bother with the Apple Store Genius Bar Techs, Geniuses they aren't! I was sold a new power adapter, he did an SMC Reset, and "Cleaned" the contacts on the MagSafe Board pronouncing it cured. A month later the new power adapter was fried, and I was back where I started. Don't hesitate to get a new MagSafe Board, and Power Adapter from iFixit so you can be your own Genius and fix it right the first time. Face it! Once an electrical connection has been overheated there is no Mickey Mouse Repair that will work. A Genius Should Know That!

My Problem

Broken MagSafe board

My Fix

Went good

My Advice

Bought part from amazon, it was either broken or a fake; it did not work. Bought part from ifixit and it fit better and actually worked. Fixed the laptop.

My Problem

battery was dead and magsafe board failed

My Fix

everything was great, i had 1 screw stripped from a previous repair but it wasn't too much of an issue and i broke 1 speaker connector , but that speaker was already blown and will be replaced once i can afford it.

My Advice

be very gentle with the speaker connectors, they really are delicate.

My Problem

I bought a new battery off Amazon when I got my MacBook on eBay and the battery suddenly stopped charging and would shut off immediately when unplugged.

My Fix

Very quick and easy replacement! Didn't fix the issue but have a new battery on the way from you all.

My Advice

To get the flat ribbon cable back in, uses piece of scotch tape and "pull" it into place, being sure the locking clip is up.
