My Problem

Noisy fans in the MacBook Pro made using the laptop nearly impossible. The high pitch whiny rattle was loud and obnoxious at times and what Apple wanted to charge to fix it was like taking out a second mortgage. So when I found iFixit with guides on "how to" I thought why not?

My Fix

The guides didn't make . . .

My Problem

Left fan was making loud grinding sound, so both fans replaced to avoid future problems with right fan

My Fix

Instructions were very good with easy step by step procedures.

My Advice

FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS, make sure the i-sight cable and converter cables are properly connected before closing the case. Use something . . .

My Problem

Left fan was noisy enough to be heard from the next room.

My Fix

First try was on the previous weekend -- I used the guide to take out the noisy fan, disassembled it, cleaned it, and applied some lube. Put everything back together, fired it up, and there was blessed silence.

For ten minutes.

My Problem

Fan was noisy

My Fix

The right fan had become very loud.

My Fix

I first tried to just clean the fan blades, as others on the web have noted. But the blades are fragile and I managed to break one off while cleaning. Even though I was being quite careful.

So I bought a new fan. I decided to replace both fans as both were dirty . . .

My Problem

Laptop was running really hot. Fan control utility showed left fan was not running. 0 RPM.

My Fix

Outstanding. Followed repair guide easily

My Advice

Add recommendation for cleaning dust from fan exit ports. Remove both fans and clean dust. Tooth picks and Q-tips worked

Add link in guide for removing and reconnec . . .
