My Problem
DVD quit...hard drive way too small!!!!
Friend was afraid to dig in...So I jumped in...
My Fix
Remove the screws...pull it apart...put it back together...wala!!!
All works like a champ!!!
My Advice
Go slow and don't over tighten anything...snug is cool.
My Problem
Unibody 8x SATA SuperDrive had expired and needed replacing.
My Fix
Went smoothly.
My Advice
Use pencil marks to mark where long screws go when removing bottom of laptop. They easily wipe off when done.
My Problem
Dead Superdrive
My Fix
Just fine!
Ordered the drive on a monday at eleven am. Got the Fedex package at eleven Wednesday. And I live in Stockholm, Sweden.
My Advice
Simple repair. And You don't have to take the battery out so You don't need the pentalobe tool.
My Problem
The trackpad on my wife's mid 09 MBP was not recognizing the physical click, for almost two years. The optical drive was also not functioning for over a year. We have three kids and they sometimes move faster than we can take things away from them.
My Fix
Due to the step by step guides the repair was easy peasy. It went just like the guides said.
My Advice
The only surprise was the torque screw under the trackpad. There was no mention of this in the guide and the trackpad came with a new one (didn't use). Because it seemed to be just a screw and the new trackpad worked fine with the old screw, I just left the old one in there.
My Problem
My wife's MacBook Pro optical drive was spinning but it wouldn't read anything. Since I do Technology Support for our school district I had taken apart MacBook Pros before, but had never replaced an optical drive before.
My Fix
With the fabulous instructions on iFixit. com it was VERY easy. Put it back together and it works perfectly !
My Advice
You may not have to take the "subwoofer" and Airport card completely out if you take out their screws and slide them over to get to the drive's screw underneath.
My Problem
It used to be my wife's mbp and I gave it to her in our wedding days , but she broke the front glass and super drive wont work ..ect
My Fix
I replaced front glass , super drive, battery, hard drive with SSDH and I upgraded memory from three to eight .
My Advice
Be careful with opening cables specially the smaller one , because it's easy to break
My Problem
Optical drives are almost vestigial, but not quite, particularly if you want to play older titles, like Tomb Raider Anniversary.
My Fix
The repair went great! The parts arrived promptly and the Android app helped me install it step-by-step. Now I can get back to raiding those tombs. Cheers!
My Advice
Keep up the good work!
My Problem
Superdrive was acting up. I ordered a replacement from ifixit. Within a few days my order arrived. Installation took about 30 minutes, and the replacement worked perfectly.
My Fix
Easy...thanks to the detailed guide on ifixit.
My Advice
Just follow the directions. Keep all your screws organized and in order. There are several different sizes of screws that require removal. When you take the screws out, situate them so you know how they go back in.
My Problem
Ordered an optical drive and HD cable from iFixit to repair two different MacBook Pros.
My Fix
Both parts I ordered fit perfectly and fixed both machines.
My Advice
The repair guides are great and the parts I ordered are a great alternative to going with Apple repair parts.
