Step Lines

[* black] If you are replacing RAM (such as replacing a 512MB DIMM with a 1GB DIMM), the Mac might not recognize the new DIMM at all. In this case:
[* black] Shut down.
[* black] Press Command-Option-P-R with one hand.
[* black] Start the Mac by pressing the power button.
[* black] When you hear the chime the second time, stop pressing the keys and let it boot normally. These steps resets the "Parameter RAM" which (among other things) causes the Mac to look at your new RAM.
