Introduction

This guide will instruct you, step by step, in how to remove and replace the disk drive in your Vaio VGRFS640.

  1. Flip laptop over so that "Service TAG" is shown at the top left corner.

  2. Remove highlighted screws from back of laptop.

  3. Remove screws from panels at bottom right hand side.

  4. Remove two panels at bottom right hand corner by sliding in direction of arrows shown

  6. Remove screws underneath removed panels.

  7. Remove Hard drive from computer.

  8. Remove battery by pressing inwards on both tabs.

  9. Remove cover at top left of laptop by pulling outwards.

  10. Remove backplate of laptop by pulling outward.

  11. Unscrew the screws holding in the CD/ DVD drive. Unscrew the screws holding in the CD/ DVD drive.
    • Unscrew the screws holding in the CD/ DVD drive.

  12. Remove the CD/ DVD drive by gently lifting it up and out of the laptop. Remove the CD/ DVD drive by gently lifting it up and out of the laptop.
    • Remove the CD/ DVD drive by gently lifting it up and out of the laptop.

  13. Get the new CD/ DVD drive. Make sure that the new CD/ DVD drive is compatable with the Vaio VGRFS640
    • Get the new CD/ DVD drive.

    • Sony no-longer has a list of compatable drivers, however the original driver can be found here under optical drive.
