I have the TiVo Series 2 model TCD746500 and the procedure for replacing a fan on my model is almost identical to the procedure described here, with one significant difference at this step: first pull/slide the outer casing back towards yourself and only thereafter pull it up.

Take the wound red and black wires coming from the fan and follow them back to the logic board. Unplug the connector from the motherboard.
