Peel off the green tape that covers the connectors for the three black strips.

  • Use the tip of a spudger or your fingernail to flip up the small retaining flap.

Be very careful!! Those small retaining flaps are just tiny strips of plastic, held in place by little plastic tabs at each end. If you break one or lose it, you may well need to replace the connector: a MUCH more difficult repair.

  • Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver screwdriver to remove the four 3.2mm screws.

  • Use the nylon spudger to remove the native tab by wedging it under each side and prying up. Then, lift it straight up from its socket.

  • Carefully pull out the charging port.

  • This may take some force because of the sticky glue.

Note: technically this is the charging port/microphone flex cable. If you are shopping for the part, be sure you buy the cable and not just the charging port, unless you’re prepared to do a microsoldering repair (i.e. remove the cable, then desolder and gently remove the port, then replace and resolder it. Far from impossible, but more difficult than replacing the flex cable….)
