    • 1. Remove the rear casing and the battery.

    • 2. Remove the SD card and the sim card (if needed).

    • Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the 7 Phillips head screws, indicated in the picture.

    • Move along the outside edge with the plastic tool, popping the connections to the phone.

    • The volume rocker and power button housing can be easily lost when you remove the back housing. Make sure you keep it where you can find it.

    • Remove the two black Phillips head screws located at the top left and the bottom right of the logic board.

    • Disconnect all push connectors and the antenna cable with a small pull shown on the left.

    • Prop the motherboard on the side of the phone. Then take off the power button board (near the top of the antenna wire).

    • Remove the 2 Phillips head screws located at the bottom of the charging board.

    • Some models may have a ribbon flex button that sticks to the side of the phone, instead of one directly on the board. To remove, you must gently peel these from the sides of the phone using a thin spudger, otherwise the delicate ribbons may rip and you may not be able to power on your phone.

I9100 model: WAIT! Left side of motherboard is connected to on/off button, and I for one could not see how to disconnect it. Be very careful not to lift this side at all. otherwise you risk damaging the connection, as I did - in my case, fatally so.

    • Remove the board by prying off one end and moving toward the other.

    • A hair dryer can help loosen the adhesive, but it is optional.

    • Replace the old board with a new one.

Hi all,

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2. The USB charging port is not working reliably. I read this repair guide, got the part, and set about replacing the USB charging board. Unfortunately, when I opened the phone, it does not look like the photos in this guide. To start, there are six screws instead of seven. Then when the back is removed, there are not "two black screws" to be removed. Finally, the motherboard is completely different from what is shown here. It is one single board, with the USB charging port board incorporated. It cannot be removed to replace it. So the part I bought does not work with my Samsung Galaxy S2. Is there another guide to help with my model of this phone?

Model SGH-T989

Many thanks.

Hi rileybk, there are quite a number of phones called "Samsung Galaxy S2". Have a look at the Wikipedia here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Ga...

The device shown here seems to be a SGH-I777 which you can read on the label below the battery.

As Wikipedia describes these devices can be very different from each other so that your replacement part might not fit or work at all.

(btw, I came by to look for a guide for the so-called "international version" i9100 ... I have to see whether this guide will help me nethertheless)

Need to buy new USBport and solder it to the motherboard, if there is no way to get new motherboard or replacement charging board.

Does this work with a Galaxy S2 with a model number of SPH-0710?

Whoops! I meant a a Galaxy S2 with a model number of SPH-D710.

Unfortunately, the Micro-B port in the Sprint/4G version of the SII is soldered directly to the logic board, as seen here, as circled in red.

To replace the USB port on this specific board, you will need a soldering iron, decent micro soldering skills and most importantly, the spare part and a lot of patience.

I would suggest upgrading to a newer device at this point, or just taking it to your local repair shop unless you already know what you’re doing.
