What you need

  1. Polar V800 Battery Replacement, Waterproofing Seal: step 1, image 1 of 2 Polar V800 Battery Replacement, Waterproofing Seal: step 1, image 2 of 2
    • In this guide, the wrist band of the Polar V800 is removed for a clear view of the back panel. If you find it helpful, you may want to remove the wrist strap. Please reference the Watch Band Replacement guide for removal instructions if you wish to do so.

    • Ensure your Polar V800 sports watch is powered off before continuing.

    • Remove the eight, 7.4 millimeter-long screws on the back of the watch with a T5 head-type, torque screwdriver.

  2. Polar V800 Battery Replacement: step 2, image 1 of 3 Polar V800 Battery Replacement: step 2, image 2 of 3 Polar V800 Battery Replacement: step 2, image 3 of 3
    • Gently separate the watch housing from the back panel.

    • The watch should come apart easily after removing the screws. If you experience difficulties separating the housing and and back cover, use a spudger to gently pry apart the back panel and the button and screen protector housing.

  3. Polar V800 Battery Replacement: step 3, image 1 of 2 Polar V800 Battery Replacement: step 3, image 2 of 2
    • The waterproofing seal is the red, elastic band that surrounds the display of the watch.

    • Remove the waterproofing seal.

    • During reassembly, align the red seal in the groove surrounding the glass screen on the main watch housing to ensure a watertight seal.

    • Though not necessary, following the Polar V800 Display Replacement first may make the motherboard easier to remove.

    • Remove the nine, 4.0 millimeter-long screws with a T5 head-type torque screwdriver.

  5. Polar V800 Battery Replacement: step 5, image 1 of 1
    • Once all of the screws have been removed, lift the motherboard to expose the battery beneath motherboard.

    • A red wire and a black wire should run between the motherboard and the battery.

  6. Polar V800 Battery Replacement: step 6, image 1 of 1
    • The battery is glued down to the back of the watch. It may take some force to detach the battery at the glue joint.

    • Use a spudger to pry the battery from the back of the watch.

    • If your battery is swollen, be very careful in removing the battery. If the packaging is ruptured, the battery will be unsafe to handle with bare hands. The contents of the battery are hazardous.

    Hi Casey,

    look for a 453030 on Aliexpress.com.

it takes about 4 weeks from China and is with shipping 10usd.

it fits perfect. A 503030 does not fit

    aliexpress 503030 does fit..

I have trouble - I apparently cannot charge the new battery, or it charges just a little. This problem was noted on a YT video also.. for half the people this happens. Now I am not sure if the battery is faulty or somethings going on like its too discharged and needs a special charging protocol?

    Thanks. Great job !

    Hi Tomas,

take a Voltmeter and measure if the battery has 3.7V. If not charge it with a normal battery charger for 3.7V

@jarodlyles Where can I buy those 7.4 mm long screws? I tried to open my V800 and I think I might have ruined the groves on the screw head. Now, the screw driver just rotates and does not screw in. I am thinking of buying new screws to replace the old ones. Please let me know.

I found so many 3.7 V 350 mAH LiPo batteries with a bit different dimensions. I wan’t to buy the right, before try to change it.

Can you please specify the dimensions of the battery? Or, if possible, a direct link to order one (eBay, Amazon, some shop witch delivery to germany)?

Thanks

Did you really replaced the battery with a new? Then, why don’t you can answer where to buy a new? Or do you just dismounted it, to show how it can work?

Hi!

From the pictures is not posible to get the information about the battery size or other information.

Would it be posible for you to post this data.

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards

I spoke with Polar USA. They will not sell me a battery or give me a part number for the battery. If your watch is under 2 years old, I believe Polar USA will replace the entire watch. I plan on taking my watch apart to get part number and dimensions from battery. I will post my results on here. I have to wait until I get a T5 screw driver.

Robert - Reply

the original polar battery is 442830 4.4 mm thick 28 mm wide an 30 mm long, I could not find this size but ordered 452530 which is 0.1 mm thicker then the original, this is for example avalible at:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3-7v-lit...

I did not arrive yet so not sure this will work yet

niekroset2 - Reply

Thank you very much for the specs and the link. I’ve ordered one.

KlausiHH -

Note the A is 50mAh less than the original at 350mAh, so your usage time will be lower by at least 15% :(

Mark-Temba Christensen -

Hello niekroset2 ,

I found this link to the exact part number 442830:

https://detail.1688.com/offer/5509086147...

Unfortunately the website is in Chinese. My roommate speaks Chinese so I’ll have him take a look at it.

I believe the one you found (part number 452530) will work fine. .1mm of extra thickness is nothing. The battery currently in my Polar V800 is swollen a lot more than that. Polar USA told me if I need a new battery that I should just buy a new watch as if my money didn’t matter. Other than the battery being swollen the watch is still working great. The USB port is a bit tricky, but I believe the problem with the USB post is due to the swollen battery putting pressure on the rear plate.

Robert - Reply

Hehe, the min. order amount is only 1500 units :-/

Mark-Temba Christensen -

Also if you are getting erroneously high heat rate it probably because some moisture got into your heart rate sensor. Remove the battery cover from the heart rate sensor and let it sit overnight. Once it dries out apply a layer of electrical tape in cross hatch pattern around the sensor and it will be fine. No need to buy another sensor. I use a Polar H7 Heart Rate Sensor and it works perfectly. No need to upgrade to the H10. Polar already took enough of our money.

I have mounted a new battery.

Polar V800 works fine; the only problem is that loading this new battery is not possible, it constantly claims it is full while it isnt full.

Attaching the loading cable works for one second then the message occurs.

Any idea if I have to or can reset this message ?

A Polar trick perhaps ?

Has anybody changed original battery for this from aliexpress?

How does it fit?

Any problems with charging? (like Maurice Echlorn)

Is there any chance to fit 50x30x30?

This acu are easy to buy everywhere…

Jerzy Szakiel - Reply

I changed the original battery to 453030 (4.5mm, 30mm, 30mm). It fits nicely, no glue needed since it seems to be tight enough without the glue (or is just left the old glue as it was in the V800 base plate). The battery replacement requires soldering and I have two comments to the above procedure: there is no need to disconnect the wires from the base plate if you change the battery only (Step 7 above, dont disconnect the wires). The wires are connected to the mother board and those wires (red and black) need to be disconnected first. And the new battery requires the same soldering points, one for positive (red) and one for negative (black wire).

The cost of the battery was about 11 euros (from a Chinese web store, delivery (6e) included), about 12 USD.

Arto K - Reply

What is the name of the shop where you bought the battery?

Any problems witch charging?

Maurice above mentioned it…

Jerzy Szakiel -

I have charged V800 with the new battery two times. No problems with charging, everything goes normally.

Arto K -

During the week I had 8 hours of cross country skiing with GPS tracking and 6 hours of indoor cycling with a Bluetooth speed sensor, and HR of course for all activities. Then V800 said that recharge the battery. And after charging for a couple of hours, the battery is full again (100%). It is not what Polar has promised (13h of GPS tracking) but this is OK for me. At least much better that with the old battery.

Arto K -

There seems to be no way to turn off the watch. At least I had to do the job with the power on, and when the new battery got even a brief connection to the motherboard, the watch immediately turned on again. Therefore all the soldering must be done with the power on.

I used this battery, which I’ve successfully charged twice up to now: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3-7v-lit.... The capacity of the battery doesn’t seem to match with the original, though :(

Hi,

The battery for the SMARTWATCH KW88 Z10 350mAh fits perfectly. It's enough to do unsolder the tape.

jari_pitkanen - Reply

I changed the battery for a 453030 3.7V with 400maH. The battery fits perfect into the watch, but the watch does not power on any more. The battery is charged fully. I can switch on the watch with the power cable attached, I can Softreset and Sync it with the cable attached and also Reset to factory settings, but as soon as I detach the cable, the watch is switched off. It also recognizes the battery and reports 100% charged. For me it does not look like a HW defect. The watch even does not switch on when the old battery is soldered back.

Is there somebody aware of any SW change in some newer Firmwares of the watch? If some of you replaced the battery without trouble and some have issues, there must be something different in HW or SW. I have one of the “new” watches with already a cap on the charging connectors and I use the latest Firmware available.

There are people out, asking if a 503030 would fit, which I definitely can deny. 4.5 mm in hight is the max and about 32mm in length and 30 in width

Michael_B - Reply

have you used 503030 or not. Asking because I have it, and I won´t do it 2 times. so is possibility that 503030 battery will fit inside and work or I need order anotherone 453030 ?

Jan Stetak -

I found my problem, which occurred after replacing the battery. From outside the watch there are only three buttons on the right side of the watch. Inside there are three on the left and right side. There was a slight/random connection on the left side from the middle button. Fixed that and watch runs with the new 3.7V 453030 400Mah like charming. Charged and synchronized serveral times.

Michael_B - Reply

Have you measured how long can you record the activity with GPS on with the new battery? I recently put 403030, 400mAh into V800 and it holds 5h30min only (GPS on, no H7). V800 was left overnight close to the window. Be aware that when the battery is low, V800 switches off GPS module, but it continues recording the activity. The moment when GPS is switched off (battery life) you can observe after uploading the activity to the web as your position mark on the map disappears.

Leszek Margiel -

After 4 years (1050 h training) the original battery demonstrated about 50% of capacity. I changed the battery for a 453030.

The watch cannot be powered off. I recommend to select Flight Mode in General settings.

Step 7 can be skipped, if your friend will help with soldering (one person holds the motherboard, the other person works with the soldering iron).

Prepare the battery: Leads from the new battery come out of the corner. The short central white lead is not used, cut it and remove it. Then carefully pull out the black and red leads so that they come out in the center, as in the original battery.

I have changed my battery and it is charging when connected with the cable. However, as soon as I disconnect the charging cable the watch is dead. I have no glue how this is possible. Anyone?

ik ordered the suggested battery from Aliexpress and followed every step as explained above.

@mibuc what did you do with the left hand button in the middle to solve the problem you noticed? Probably I do have the same problem.

hope you guys can help

LP77 - Reply

@LP77

i believe you have a connection in the middle button on the left side. I used a small screw driver to bend the connector a little bit more away.

that helped on my watch. In the meanwhile I have charged the watch about 20 times and used it serveral times. Works perfect.

Michael_B - Reply

Thank you for the quick reply. Well, I noticed that the middle button did not make a connection. Nevertheless the battery is charging now. However, after 2 hours of charging it only has 8% battery level. So it charges very slowly. Any clue how that can be possible?

Again, many thanks for the quick reply, it’s appreciated.

LP77 -

Believe me, there is/was a connection when the electronic is in the housing. I recognized, that I had a slow charging in the beginning, too or the charge level did not show the right percentage. I thought that is due to some kind of self calibration.. is it now working without charger??

Michael_B - Reply

Yes, it’s working without charger. I will try the hard reset. It’s definately worth a try.

LP77 -

What I did after charging was a hard reset. Holding all for buttons ( upper and lower on both sides) for about five seconds.

Michael_B - Reply

Unfortunately no result. When disconnecting the charging cable, I see 100% shortly but after that it gives the notification that the V800 needs to be recharged. Even after the reset. Last thing I will try is connecting it to the computer. If this won’t work it will end in the garbage bin. A fantastic watch, but poor quality IMO.

LP77 -

I still believe, there is a random contact on the left middle button in your watch, when the electronic is in the housing. Bend it a little more. Also clean the channel for the pressure. It has nothing todo with your issue, but while having the watch open, good time to clean.

Do not dump it. Its a great watch! Charge it again.

Michael_B - Reply

Tried all, without any result. RIP v800…..

LP77 -

Herr you can buy the correct replacement battery:

https://de.aliexpress.com/item/323312171...

Nick - Reply

I do not think, that your battery fits, because its 50 (5 mm ) in hight and its 350mah which is 15% less capacity than the original one. So you change the battery, because it does not last long enough without recharge and then you try to use a model with reduced capacity.

Michael_B -

Is battery still the same size in newer all black models? Mine has T6 screws on the back, not T5..

__MPK__ - Reply

@MPK_ Yes its is.

Michael_B -

I used this battery

https://a.aliexpress.com/_d65t8W8

And it sucks

Just 3.5 hours of gps tracking.

Anyone had better performance?

Nico Venema - Reply

Worse performance. Mine won’t even charge. I used hobby charger to test it.. was planning to measure capacity.. I can measure voltage (3.9V) using the charger, but connetion breaks as soon as I start charge. Discharge same thing.. I used 0.1A for both.

Total garbage.

__MPK__ -

so what you are saying is, that you both of you got bad batteries or do you want say something else. When I look at Aliexpress, I found 7 sellers, selling these 453030 for different prices. If you ordered it there, you can ask for refund or new item. My three V800 here are running up to 9h with gps with the replacement.

Michael_B - Reply

Liter energy battery, 453030.. and it won't charge at all. I think charging trips the (faulty) protection circuit somehow cause voltage is really low for a while after that.. and then back to 3.9V again..

Quess it's just pure luck if you get decent one when buying these. Still not 400mAh

__MPK__ -

I replaced the battery with this one: “https://de.aliexpress.com/item/328615449..., 3,7 v 453030 400 mah lithium-polymer-batterie, and it worked fine.

I found it better not to remove the wristband, because it was helpful to fix the watch onto a “third” arm while changing the battery. Furthermore, there is no need to wait until the V800 is discharged, as the Lipo will never (should never) really discharge, because this would destroy the battery. It is better to cut the battery wires as soon as possible, after dismounting the housing.

Before soldering, just fold (which is kind of unfolding) the LCD display to the top.

Good luck,

KS

Klaus S. - Reply

First of all even 503030 fits..

I also have trouble with those Liter aliexpress batteries seemingly wont charge inside the watch,,, need to try on some charger

tomas timoransky - Reply

I also have experience replacing the battery.

First, the watch still did not start. It turned out that the ground between the battery ground lead connection point and the watch chassis is broken. I fixed it with a jumper wire.

Second, the watch warmed up a lot when the charger was connected. The USB connector's surge protector was short-circuited. Its type seems to be Semtech SMF05. It can be found near the vibration motor. I don't know what had happened. Now everything seems to be fine.

All Polar training watches can be ‘shutdown’ by performing factory reset and leaving them alone. They will shutdown after some time (make sure not to press any button or perform initial configuration)
