PlayStation 4 Optical Drive Replacement

What you need

    • Remove three 9.7 mm Torx security screws.

    • Remove two 41 mm Phillips screws and brackets.

    • Lift the power supply straight up and out of the PS4.

    • The power supply is held firmly in place by prongs on the left side. It may take multiple attempts to remove it.

    • During reassembly, ensure the prongs are aligned, then press the power supply into place.

    • Disconnect the ribbon wire from the optical drive by pressing down on the metal release tab and gently pulling the ribbon wire. This should not require force.

    • Disconnect the same ribbon wire from the motherboard; making sure you're pressing down on the metal release tab and gently pulling the ribbon wire.

    • Remove the wifi antenna cable attached to the motherboard.

    • Remove the optical drive four wire plug from the motherboard by pulling straight out.

    • Remove the four 9mm Torx T9 screw attached to the wifi antenna and optical drive.

    • Remove the 5mm Phillips head #1 screw.

    • Lift up and remove the wifi antenna.

  9. PlayStation 4 Optical Drive Replacement: step 9, image 1 of 1
    • The optical drive can now be lifted straight up and removed from the system.

    • Be aware that the optical drive is "married" to the motherboard. If you need to replace your optical drive you must remove the motherboard on the original optical drive and install it on the drive you intend to install in your PS4.
