Opening and repairing Petzl Tikka Plus 4-LED Headlamp

What you need

  1. Opening and repairing Petzl Tikka Plus 4-LED Headlamp, Open battery compartment: step 1, image 1 of 1
    • Push the catch on the top to open the battery compartment

  2. Opening and repairing Petzl Tikka Plus 4-LED Headlamp, Remove battery cover: step 2, image 1 of 1
    • Remove the batteries and lift the two straps with a flat screwdriver. Pull the straps out.

  3. Opening and repairing Petzl Tikka Plus 4-LED Headlamp, Extract PCB and battery holder: step 3, image 1 of 1
    • This is the most crucial part. Do NOT try to release the latches at the front. Insert a small screwdriver at the positions indicated in the back near the "belt hinges" to flex the rear part of the case back and free the latches of the inner part.

  4. Opening and repairing Petzl Tikka Plus 4-LED Headlamp, Disassembled parts: step 4, image 1 of 3 Opening and repairing Petzl Tikka Plus 4-LED Headlamp, Disassembled parts: step 4, image 2 of 3 Opening and repairing Petzl Tikka Plus 4-LED Headlamp, Disassembled parts: step 4, image 3 of 3
    • If all went well, the inner part should come out. In my case the push button fell into its pieces as well. You see the rubber layer and sheet metal clip of the button in the orange back of the outer knob.

    • The push button itself is a smd device of 6mm x 6mm and about 3.1mm height. The best thing would be to replace it. If you can get a spare part and can solder these tiny pads go for it. I just cleaned the dome spring with a piece of paper and reassembled it. Make sure you place the concave side of the dome spring on the three connectors.

    • Before reassembly try to insert batteries and verify that connecting the middle pole of the button to one of the outer ones switches the light on. Dont look straight into the LEDs, they're very bright!

Conclusion

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

How do you strap the headband after taking it off…silly question but any info would be helpful

I have a 3-LED Tikka and this guide worked the same. After many years, I was finally able to fix the screwy slider on-off switch contact with the lead on the little resistor. Whoohoo! It works fine now.

Like John, worked for 3 LED Tikka. Battery leaked all over the contacts and I was able to clean it and get it back up and running.
