I have a d3200 that “at will” will throw this message, so incredibly random. It will be fine then …. the message. Always at the worst moment. I have checked the mirror path and that doesn’t seem to be catching at all. I think I want to try this fix you outlined, but I have. D3200 not a 3000… is everything the same?
