Remove the back case of the Zune 30 GB.

Edit Step 1 Back Case  ¶

  • First, begin by removing the screw cover that is located on the bottom of the device. You will need to insert a small flat-head screwdriver into one side of the screw cover and gently ease it out. Do the same to the other side until it's worked free.

  • Be very gentle when removing the screw cover as it is a brittle piece of plastic that will break if forced.

  • Using a #00 Phillips screwdriver, remove the two 2.6 mm screws that are now exposed.

Edit Step 2  ¶

Edit Step 2  ¶

  • Using the blue plastic opening tool, slowly work your way around the edges of the case to release the front plate from the bottom case.

  • Be sure when prying the device open to be careful and gentle.

Edit Step 3  ¶

Edit Step 3  ¶

  • Turn the Zune over so that the screen is facing down. This is to ensure that the battery doesn't fall out and pull on the cable.

  • The battery is not fastened to the inside of the case so be careful.

  • Make sure that you pry up from the bottom as the headphone jack at the top will not allow you to remove the back case in one pull. You must slide the back case up and away from the rest of the Zune.

Edit Step 4  ¶

Edit Step 4  ¶

  • The back case is now completely separated from the rest of the Zune. At this point you can replace the back case.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

The piece extends inward to kind of sheath the connector itself so it takes a little back and forth between the sides.

The battery flopping out definitely surprised me a bit.
