  2. Mac Mini Mid 2010 RAM austauschen: step 2, image 1 of 1
    • Neige den Mac Mini etwas, um die Abdeckung vom Gehäuse abzunehmen.

    • Entferne die Abdeckung und lege sie zur Seite.

  3. Mac Mini Mid 2010 RAM austauschen, RAM: step 3, image 1 of 2 Mac Mini Mid 2010 RAM austauschen, RAM: step 3, image 2 of 2

A spudger makes this job much easier and less stressful with the second (lower) RAM stick.

Do the RAM chips have to be paired, or could I replace a one gig bar with a 4 gig bar?

Thanks for any hints!

Hansen - Reply

They don't need to be paired, although that is the optimum. Just remember, it is best to make sure they are the same speed, or the Mac will just operate both RAMs at the speed of the slowest stick. For example, if you have 2x 1GB PC8500 sticks in there, and you replace one of them with a 4GB PC10600 stick (fastest speed this Mac Mini will run) you will get a benefit form the extra memory, but not the full speed upgrade as both RAMs will operate at the speed of the 8500 stick. Does that make sense? So replacing both with 2x 2GB PC10600 will give you better performance.

This Mac Mini will run PC10600 RAM sticks, although I believe only 4GB per slot.

This Mac can run 16GB of RAM, mine does. Just FYI.

Interesting. I want to try that.

my mac mini starts making a tone every 5 sec. and do not boot up

Same here with two 8GB sticks.

I have the same problem. did you solve the issue?

frederic reblewski -

@Greg: Do you have any indication that your Mini actually uses 16MB? I’ve put 4MB in a Mini 2,1 well aware of that it only utilizes 3 of those but it still reports 4MB on “About”…

Do you mean GBs not MBs

Does the MacMini mid 2010 work with 2 x 8gig memory cards? I currently have 1 x 8gig memory crd and 1 x 2 gig memory card but would like to upgrade the 1 gig to an 8 gig memory card.

Any advice on this?

According to MacTracker — It should support that @tcbconsult

Does mac mini 2010 support 1600 mhz frequency ram ?? If not then what us the max frequency ram supported

Secondly what is the max size to which ram in mac mini 2010 can be extended.

So mine doesn’t recognize any cards put in its second slot. This might be due to water damage - I had my computer checked after it got water in it (roof leak while I was out of the house) and they said nothing was wrong, but a year later, I tried to increase my RAM and discovered this problem. Is there any way I can fix it myself?
