What you need
-
-
First, loosen the two screws on the left and right of the USB port (P2 bit).
-
Carefully pry the smartphone cover upward bit by bit, starting from the USB side.
-
Caution: Especially if the display is damaged in the corner, two gaps are visible (red arrows). You should use the lower one, as otherwise you’ll pry out the display and won’t be able to proceed further.
-
-
-
After opening, the smartphone looks like the first image. Now, the ribbon cable for the fingerprint sensor needs to be disconnected to separate the two halves.
-
You can either disconnect it on the cover side (second image) by lifting the gray plastic piece with a small screwdriver, or remove it on the "circuit board side" if you’re already planning to replace the battery or display (next step).

A brief overview of the function of each ribbon cable

Display (red)
-
Fingerprint sensor (blue)
-
Battery (green)
-
Connection to lower modules (yellow). Caution: The cable must be reinserted in the correct orientation during reassembly if it is disconnected at both ends.
-
Coaxial cable (also yellow, obscured) to the lower module.
-
To disconnect the cables, remove the Phillips screws and pry out the cover plates. At the points marked with an arrow, the plates are additionally clamped beyond the screws.
-
-
-
For safety reasons, disconnect the battery's ribbon cable. Then disconnect the display connection.
-
To remove the display, the black part at the bottom of the smartphone (marked in blue) must be removed. To do this, remove the screws and lever the part out by hand (it is wedged in the corner).
-
Caution: There is an error in the image; the ribbon cable marked in red is connected the wrong way round! The correct direction can be seen in the basic instructions.
-
-
-
The first image shows the smartphone after removing the black part. Now the display can be removed.
-
The display is glued to the frame and can be removed with the typical opening tools, as with other cell phones. If necessary, carefully heat the adhesive, taking care not to damage the battery.
-
-
-
Remove the old adhesive and stick the new display in place. Either purchase special mobile phone adhesive or use silicone adhesive, for example.
-
Once the new display is adhered in place, it is best to connect it immediately before reassembling the rest of the device. If the ribbon cable is short, less pressure will need to be applied.
-
Follow the steps in reverse order to reassemble your device.
