Some of Nintendo’s first-batch left Joy-Con controllers are notorious for sync issues. This is due to a minor design flaw, and can be remedied with a small piece of conductive foam that can be often be found in old packaging around the house!

Where can i find conductive foam? I don’t understand “can often be found in old packaging around the house”. What kind of packaging?

Hey Vishvan! A lot of electronics are packaged with conductive foam, so there’s a good chance you might have some around the house if you are the kind of person who keeps boxes from electronics you have purchased in the past. You can test any foam you find with a capacitive touchscreen (like the one on your Nintendo Switch)—if the foam registers as a touch on the screen, it is conductive.
It’s nice if you can recycle some from old packaging, because it can be tricky to find online in small quantities. It generally comes in (relatively) big blocks or sheets and you only need a tiny piece.
If you cant find any around the house, eBay is a good place to start looking!

What thickness of conductive foam should I choose? There are 3 sizes: 3mm/0.12, 5mm/0.20", 10mm/0.39"

The space is ~9 mm wide, so I would go with the 10 mm size and you can trim it down if you need to!

Hello I opened up my left joycon and saw conductive foam inside already! I replaced it with one that I bought on amazon (I made sure it was actually conductive foam). But it still won’t sync. Any ideas? Could it be that little solder bubble that connects to the antenna has gone bad? Should I try to reflow it? I also checked to see if any capacitors in the top of the board were shorted and none of them were. If you have any ideas I would be happy to hear!

I opened my left Joycon and found that there is no antenna area near the joystick compartment. It’s just an empty space what should I do, I have the conductive foam but obviously don’t know where to place.

Hi I have the white ones that came with the switch oled, I followed the instructions but the antenna isn't where it is in the video.

This video only covers original left Joycon sync issue. For v2 joycons there should be a different video as it is a different motherboard.
