Introduction

This is a simple guide for repairing old skateboard bearings by removing them, lubricating them, and putting them back. If your skateboard feels like the wheels are full of gravel, this is the guide for you. Children should have adult supervision, but no special skills are required for this tutorial. Get your materials ready and let's get to work!

Remove the wheels from the skateboard by unscrewing the 8mm axle nuts with the adjustable wrench. Make sure to keep all your hardware organized so that nothing gets lost.
There should be four wheels, four nuts, and eight washers.

Pop the bearing out with a thin screwdriver. Go through the wheel to avoid damaging the bearings. Place the bearings next to the hardware.
Be careful not to push the screwdriver through the bearing into your hand.

Remove the bearing shield with a knife. Starting with the inside ring is the easiest method.
Use caution when using sharp tools.

Place the bearings and the shields in the container and pour mineral oil in until they are submerged. Place the lid on the container and give it a good shake.

Take the bearings out and dry them off on a rag.

Take the WD-40 and spray a little bit into each bearing.

Place the bearing shields back on the bearings by snapping them back in place.

Place the bearings back in the wheels. Using the back part of the screwdriver is the best method.

Finally, re-assemble the skateboard.
Place one wheel on the truck with the washers on each side of the wheel.
Use the wrench to screw the nuts so that they are flush with the truck. The wheel should be able to move a little bit.
Repeat this step with the other three wheels.
