HP ProBook 4540s Keyboard Replacement

What you need

  1. HP ProBook 4540s Keyboard Replacement, Battery: step 1, image 1 of 1
    • Make sure the computer is shut off and the power cord is unplugged from the AC outlet.

    • Slide the two release latches on either side of the battery.

    • Gently tilt the battery upward and remove it from its socket.

  2. HP ProBook 4540s Keyboard Replacement, Bottom Door: step 2, image 1 of 1
    • Turn the computer so the bottom is facing towards you.

    • Remove the one 3.0 mm Phillips PM2.0x3.0 security screw.

    • The security screw is an optional feature and isn't required to hold the backing if there is not one screwed in place.

    • Slide the release latches then pull the door towards you. Lift the door away to completely remove it.

  3. HP ProBook 4540s Keyboard Replacement, Keyboard: step 3, image 1 of 1
    • Remove four 6.0 mm Phillips PM2.5x6.0 screws.

I would add that the third Phillips PM2.5x6.0 screw, not highlighted in the photo above, is located near the RAM module bay, close to the left corner of the RAM module, marked also with a small keyboard sign and a small triangle near. Not removing this third screw, could result in damaging the keyboard (in case one wants just to clean, not replacing the keybord).

  4. HP ProBook 4540s Keyboard Replacement: step 4, image 1 of 1
    • Turn the computer over and position it right-side up in order and open the computer as far as possible.

  5. HP ProBook 4540s Keyboard Replacement: step 5, image 1 of 1
    • Move the keyboard in a downward fashion towards the palm rest.

  6. HP ProBook 4540s Keyboard Replacement: step 6, image 1 of 1
    • Lift the top of the keyboard at an angle and then gently pull it up and away from the palm rest.

    • Only pull the keyboard up enough to release it. The cable beneath the keyboard will still be attached to the system board.

  7. HP ProBook 4540s Keyboard Replacement: step 7, image 1 of 1
    • Disconnect the keyboard cable by lifting the latch at the center of the system board.

    • Completely remove the keyboard.

Thanks for doing this in photos and with printed instruction, instead of doing a video…this is far more clear!
