Introduction

This guide will demonstrate the proper technique for hard drive replacement. This involves unscrewing the back-plate and installing the new hard drive. No electrical experience is required to complete this project. By replacing only the damaged part you will save time, money, and reduce electronic waste. For best results, this procedure should take place in a clean, dust-free environment.

  • Each screw featured in this guide is a 9.5mm Phillips Head #0.
  • Actions are color coded with arrows in their corresponding pictures.

Image 1/2: Turn the laptop over so that the bottom side of the laptop is face up, and  the battery is closest to you. Image 2/2: Slide the battery release switch to release the battery.
  • Before starting, ensure that the laptop is powered off and unplugged from the power supply.

  • Turn the laptop over so that the bottom side of the laptop is face up, and the battery is closest to you.

  • Slide the battery release switch to release the battery.

  • Pull the battery up to remove the battery from the laptop.

  • Locate and remove the two black 9.5mm Phillips head screws on the right side of the hard drive harness.

Image 1/3: Slide the harness towards the left side of the laptop by gripping the plastic tab. Image 2/3: Pull the plastic tab upwards carefully . Image 3/3: Completely remove the harness from the laptop chamber by pulling the harness up.
  • Handle this step delicately to avoid tearing, breaking, or damaging the power/SATA cable that is attached to the hard drive.

  • Slide the harness towards the left side of the laptop by gripping the plastic tab.

  • Pull the plastic tab upwards carefully .

  • Completely remove the harness from the laptop chamber by pulling the harness up.

    • Remove the two silver 9.5mm Phillips head screws on the left side.

  • Hold the hard drive in one hand, and gently pull the plastic tab located on the top side to remove the harness from the hard drive.

  • Locate the power/SATA cable on the right side of the hard drive and pull to completely disconnect the hard drive from the laptop.
