Introduction
In this guide, I’ll show you how to replace the gearbox lifting eye on a Fiamma F45s awning.
What you need
-
-
To replace the damaged gearbox lifting eye, …
-
you need to loosen the hidden screw.
-
So extend the awning slightly. Ideally, only far enough that it’s still running in the housing guide, but the screw is accessible.
-
-
-
Loosen the four screws with the philips screwdriver.
-
Pull the housing with the gearbox straight forward off the shaft.
-
-
-
-
Now loosen all four screws with the phillips screwdriver.
-
Remove the cover and the gearbox from the housing.
-
-
-
To remove the old lifting eye…
-
The retaining pin needs to be pushed out with a pointed tool. You can use a nail, a pen, or, like in my case, a center punch.
-
Once the pin is removed, the lifting eye can be pulled down.
-
-
-
Take the new lifting eye and pin out of the packaging.
-
Slide the new lifting eye onto the shaft.
-
Insert the pin into the hole.
-
Press the pin STRAIGHT (!!) with pliers until it’s flush on both sides.
-
-
-
Insert the gearbox with the new lifting eye into the housing.
-
Mount the gearbox cover with the four screws:
-
2x small screws
-
2x machine screws with toothed washer
-
Finally, reattach everything to the main shaft.
-
Test the awning by extending and fully retracting it.
-
Work through the steps in reverse order to reassemble your device.
