Introduction
This is a way that may be able to fix the problem that makecab.exe runs for a long time, slowing down the computer. There are also many articles about makecab.exe that you can google.
Time the problem occurred to me: May 2018 on my windows 7 home 64bit.

Find CBS log files folder. The folder usually contains a .log file under 2 GB, and some .cab files.

Delete, or move away if you want to keep the logs, any .log files larger than 2 GB in the CBS folder.

If makecab.exe is currently running and processing the log files, you may need to end it through Task manager.
