Fix camera modules so that they do not rattle in the housing

What you need

    • Remove the bumper.

    • Switch off your SHIFT8.0

    • Loosen the back cover with your fingernail (pick/spatula) at the gap between the frame and the back cover in the lower left quarter (when looking at the back of the phone).

    • Remove the battery by levering it out at the bottom center with your fingernail or spatula.

  1. Fix camera modules so that they do not rattle in the housing, Loosen screws: step 2, image 1 of 2 Fix camera modules so that they do not rattle in the housing, Loosen screws: step 2, image 2 of 2
    • Use the T3 screwdriver to loosen all 10 screws (two at the bottom of the USB port). Work along the ascending numbering of the screws. This will ensure that you don't forget any.

    • If there is a white seal on the screw, you can simply push it through with the screwdriver. The positions may vary.

    • All screws in the SHIFT8.0 are identical. So you can keep them all together in one place.

  2. Fix camera modules so that they do not rattle in the housing, Detach display: step 3, image 1 of 1
    • Now run your fingernail or pick between the display frame and the center frame of the SHIFT8.0, starting at the bottom and working your way around.

    • Carefully detach the display along all sides of the phone.

    • Attention: The display is still connected to the device! Never pull it off forcibly or more than a few millimeters.

    • When the display is detached from the frame all the way around, you can proceed to the next step.

  3. Fix camera modules so that they do not rattle in the housing, Open carefully: step 4, image 1 of 1
    • Now you can carefully lift the display upwards and then place it upside down next to the lower housing.

    • Once again, do not pull the ribbon cable that connects the display to the motherboard by force!

  4. Fix camera modules so that they do not rattle in the housing, Detach camera modules: step 5, image 1 of 1
    • Both camera modules are not fixed in the housing and are connected to the main board with a plug. Hence the rattling noise.

    • Simply fold both camera modules to the left so that you can see their undersides.

  5. Fix camera modules so that they do not rattle in the housing, Apply double-sided adhesive: step 6, image 1 of 1
    • I have now stuck small corners of double-sided adhesive tape to the corners of the camera modules to stop the rattling.

    • Do not forget to remove the protective film from the upper adhesive side.

    • To be able to reinsert the camera modules with the adhesive tape, it is better to loosen the plug connection once and insert the cameras vertically into the housing from above.

    • Then reconnect the two plugs.

    • Now you can carefully reconnect the display to the lower housing. Start at the bottom, where the two screws are to the right and left of the USB port.

    • Click click click - when everything is clicked back into place, you can reinsert the battery and switch on the SHIFT8.0 and do a short test run to see if everything still works.

    • If everything is working properly, you can now screw in all 10 screws again. It is best to start with the two at the bottom of the USB port.

    • Make sure that the screws are tightened firmly, but without damaging the thread or the screw head. A good guide value is 0.6-0.8 Nm

    • Once all the screws have been replaced, insert the battery (if you haven't already done so for the test run), attach the back cover and pull the bumper over the SHIFTphone.

Conclusion

If you now place your SHIFT8.0 on the table, you should no longer hear any rattling. :)

Please leave me a comment if it worked or if you have any other suggestions for improvement. And of course I'll gladly take the points!
