Emporia CT314F300 Disassembly

Introduction

This is the current sensor that comes with the Emporia Vue and is purchasable separately on Amazon. It is designed to measure current and connect to the Emporia Vue.

What you need

    • Use a tiny screwdriver or punch to push the hinge pin so that the top of the sensor may be removed.

    • One end of the pin is crimped, the other end is smooth. Push on the smooth end to remove the pin.

    • Use a small screwdriver to pry the four corners (indicated by red circles) of the top covering. It will release and can be removed.

    • Use the small screwdriver to push on the bottom of the main body of the sensor (red circles) to remove the magnet and copper windings.

    • Push a little on each side, alternating sides. The entire casing will dislodge.

    • While removing the magnet and copper, feed to cord through the opening making sure that it does not prevent the main housing from being removed.

    • There is a 5 ohm burden resistor connected between the leads.

    • The black wire is connected to the tip (red square in the picture) of the 3.5mm connector.

    • The red wire is connected to the sleeve (red circle in the picture) of the 3.5mm connector.

    • The ring of the 3.5mm connector is not connected.

    • Insert a guitar pick and playing cards to dislodge the plastic snaps from the upper housing.

    • Press on the top of the housing (red rectangles) to separate the housing.

    • Press the plastic portion to separate the upper housing for the magnet.

Great instructions, thank you, but you seem to have missed one essential point. To remove the coil assembly from the bottom of the unit, you have to press the locking tabs on the bottom of the unit in towards the centre, especially at the ends of the tabs. This (at least on my unit bought in July 2021) releases some catches that hold the coil assembly into the housing. Without doing this you risk breaking something when trying to remove the coil assembly. I can provide pictures if that helps. For info, the reason that I wanted to take my unit apart is that the cable supplied is not long enough to reach the monitor unit from the point where I can easily attach the CT to my mains supply, so I wanted to see if I can fit a longer cable. Hi Rowan,

I think the removal of the coil is mentioned in Step 3. That is where I push the tabs towards the center to free the coil from the lower housing. Would you provide pictures? You’re welcome to update the guide with more recent information regarding the disassembly of the device.
