Dell Inspiron 5100 PP07L Heatsink Replacement

Introduction

You would need to be removing the keyboard to access the heatsink and fan. If you need to, add a new layer of Arctic Silver Thermal Paste.

What you need

  1. Dell Inspiron 5100 PP07L Heatsink Replacement, Keyboard: step 1, image 1 of 1

    • Remove battery

    • Open screen so that it lies flat.

    • Starting from the right side of the hinge cover, use the flat end of the spudger to pry up the hinge cover and gently remove it.

    • Using a Phillips screwdriver remove the four M2 x 3-mm screws holding in the keyboard.

    • Lift keyboard and detach the interface connector.

    • Take extra care when removing and handling the keyboard. The key caps on the keyboard are fragile and easily come off.

    • Detach screen connector

    • Remove two screws (5.8mm) located behind the screen.

    • Remove one screw (8.6 mm) on metal plating.

    • Remove the metal plating

    • Loosen four screws.

    • These screws are attached to the heat sink and cannot be completely removed.

    • Disconnect the wire connecting the heatsink to the motherboard.

    • Slide the heatsink away from the screen and lift.
