Introduction

This Guide covers how to properly change the engine oil and filter on a Fiat 500 Hybrid

Raise the vehicle
The lift points are designed for a jack with a slit (like the jack supplied by the manufacturer). The use of a floor jack without a suitable tip is likely to bend or break the metal at these points.

loosen the oil filter by hand or with the help of a filter wrench.
First drain the vehicle: the original filter is very tightly applied at the factory and is impossible to unscrew by hand. To remove it a tool is necessary.
Risk of burns: the exhaust system is very close to the oil filter.
On working days go purchase a filter wrench if necessary
On Sundays or holidays when you can't purchase one... Use a thick, strong screwdriver and hammer to deeply pierce the filter and use it as a lever, as in the photo. Repeat as necessary until you can remove the filter by hand.

Pre-fill the oil filter with new oil.
Lightly lubricate the o-ring of the filter with the oil used to fill it.
Tighten the filter by hand so as to be able to unscrew it more easily next time.
Manufacturer: tighten the oil filter to a torque of 14Nm with a filter wrench.

Start the engine and let it run a few moments to allow the filter to fill and the oil spread throughout the whole block.
Stop the engine and wait a few minutes the oil to flow down into the oilpan.
Check the oil level and adjust if needed.
