Alpine Ski Wax Application

Introduction

This guide will show you how to apply hot wax to alpine skis. Overtime routine ware causes the bottom of the skis to become scratched and chipped. Applying wax will restore the bottoms to near perfect condition if completed correctly.

What you need

    • Attach heavy rubber bands around the brakes.

    • Spray base cleaner along the bottom of the ski.

  3. Alpine Ski Wax Application: step 3, image 1 of 1

    • Wipe the skis with a towel, removing dirt, excess wax, the base cleaner, and dust.

    • Spread wax across the base of the ski with an edge to edge motion. While doing this hold the iron perpendicular to the base and press the wax into the iron.

    • Be careful when handling the hot iron and the hot wax.

    • Melt the wax into the base using a tip to tail stroke with the iron.

    • Let the skis dry for at least 30 minutes once all the wax is melted.

    • Scrape the excess wax off with the plastic scraper. Continue this process until there is no visible wax on the ski base.

  8. Alpine Ski Wax Application: step 7, image 1 of 1

    • Scrape the excess wax off of the side of the ski.

  9. Alpine Ski Wax Application: step 8, image 1 of 1

    • Wipe the fine wax dust from the ski base.
