Introduction

Replace the track pad for an Acer Aspire 5100.

Open and push the screen back all the way until it is horizontal with the rest of the laptop. Locate the panel above the keyboard that has the power button on it.

  • Remove this panel by using a spudger to pry up the sides.

    • You are using the spudger to release tabs holding the panel in place.

  • After you have used the spudger to release the tabs, lift up the panel.

Under the panel, locate and remove the two screws that connect the keyboard to the laptop. One screw is located above the F5 button, and the other one is located above the F10 button. Lift up the keyboard CAREFULLY because there is a ribbon that connects the keyboard to the motherboard. Lift up the keyboard CAREFULLY because there is a ribbon that connects the keyboard to the motherboard.

Release the catch on the ribbon socket, by sliding the two tabs toward the ribbon, then pull the ribbon, which is located under the keyboard, to detach it from the motherboard.

  • Remove the keyboard.

do not pull on ribbon it will only break the cable. instead use tool to detach from mother board. i broke mine by pulling ribbon.

useless guide, there are a lot of screws that lock the cover on the laptop and you have never showed them

You do not need to remove the whole cover, in order to replace the keyboard.

The description for this job is right.

The switch plate cover just pops off.

Screws revealed, secure the keyboard.

Unclip the ribbon cable.

Open the lid of the laptop and locate the cover that surrounds the keyboard and track pad. Use the spudger to pry open the sides of this cover. You are using the spudger to release tabs holding the cover in place.

You left out about 10 screws & assemblies that have to ALSO be removed to release the cover that surrounds the keyboard and track pad.

You have to remove the video cable, wifi cables and LCD before you try to remove the touchpad/upper cover. You must also remove two screws from the bottom labeled 10x. In other words, you should remove the parts I mentioned before attempting to complete steps 5 to 7.

The Fan must also be removed before removing the touchpad/upper cover.
