If your HP Photosmart Plus B209a is having print quality issues (or you need to take the printhead out for cleaning and/or replacement) you will need to remove the ink cartridges from the printer first. This guide will show you how to remove the ink cartridges from the printer for ink cartridge replacement or printhead related work.
This printer specifically uses HP 564 Standard capacity or HP 564 XL (High capacity) ink cartridges. This printer is compatible with previous generation and next generation ink cartridges and is not tied to a specific cartridge generation.
The printer must be on to change the ink cartridges. If your printer is turned off, turn the printer on.
Open the lid of the printer to reveal the printhead. The printhead will move to the center of the printer on its own.
Once you open the scanner unit, you will find there is a tab on the ink cartridges., Push this tab in on the cartridge and it should be free from the printer. Repeat this with the cartridges that need to be replaced as needed.
Once the old ink cartridge(s) have been removed, open your new ink cartridge(s) and install the replacement ink cartridge. Push down by the locking tab to ensure the ink cartridge is securely installed.
Once your new ink cartridge(s) are installed, close the scanner unit. Once the scanner unit is closed, the printer should register your new ink cartridge(s).
Let the printer prepare the ink cartridges. This will take a few minutes, so be patient. DO NOT turn the printer off while this is being done.
