Introduction

If your HP Photosmart Plus B209a is having print quality issues (or you need to take the printhead out for cleaning and/or replacement) you will need to remove the ink cartridges from the printer first. This guide will show you how to remove the ink cartridges from the printer for ink cartridge replacement or printhead related work.

This printer specifically uses HP 564 Standard capacity or HP 564 XL (High capacity) ink cartridges. This printer is compatible with previous generation and next generation ink cartridges and is not tied to a specific cartridge generation.

  • If you installed a used ink cartridge or an aftermarket replacement, the printer will complain about this when the ink cartridge is registered. Touch OK on these messages and they will clear themselves. The printer will work fine with aftermarket ink cartridges installed.

  • Once your new ink cartridge(s) are installed, close the scanner unit. Once the scanner unit is closed, the printer should register your new ink cartridge(s).

  • Let the printer prepare the ink cartridges. This will take a few minutes, so be patient. DO NOT turn the printer off while this is being done.
