== Background and Identification ==

First introduced in 1983, the Dodge Caravan, also known as the Dodge Grand Caravan (later introduced in 1987), is a series of minivans produced by Chrysler Corporation. The Caravan was intended to be the Dodge version of the Chrysler minivan and was introduced at the same time as the Plymouth Voyager. The Caravan was largely advertised and marketed in the United States and Canada. Although the Caravan was also marketed in Europe and other international markets, it was marketed as the Chrysler Voyager and Chrysler Caravan.

The fifth-generation Dodge Caravan was released in August 2007 for the 2008 model year. Production of the Dodge Caravan ended in August 2020. It was produced as a four-door minivan with a transverse front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. The Caravan was sold with a 2.8-liter inline-four diesel engine or a 3.3-liter, 3.6-liter, 3.8-liter, or 4.0-liter V6 gasoline engine. The 3.3-liter engine was paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, while the 3.6-, 3.8-, and 4.0-liter engines were paired with six-speed automatic transmissions.

The fifth-generation Dodge Caravan was sold in two different trim levels, the SE and the SXT. The SE included cloth upholstery, power locks, manual sliding doors, and manual temperature control. The SXT trim level added power sliding doors, automatic front windows, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, and a power driver’s seat, among other additions.

Dodge Caravan vehicles can usually be identified by the Dodge Ram emblem, which depicts the head of a male sheep (otherwise known as a ram) with large horns. The emblem sometimes includes the name “Dodge” in capital letters.
