Sensor Shutter that is not rising. Can it be fixed at home?

My Canon Digital Rebel is taking pictures that are all black. The mirror is working but the shutter for the sensor is not rising. Is there any way to fix this without sending into Canon for a 210 dollar repair.

Thank you.

Having read up a little about your problem, it appears that your best bet would be to replace the shutter box. It is available on places like this and here I found a site where someone did a repair like yours at least it gives you an idea what to expect. The repair manual and parts list are available to you from my file share Part 1 and here is Part 2 It is the parts list as well as the repair manual, but you will have to download both parts. Good Luck and let us know how it is going.

Yeah I have same problem.

As costs at the canonservice are as the same a new entrylevel camera, I decide

to buy only the spare shutter for arround €80,-

The bad thing is you have to work from the backdoor of the cam till the optical system in front.

a lot of screws, parts and patience..

not a beginner project.

cheers
