Charging Paused Due to Internal Temperature

I have a ZTE ZMax Pro. It has always worked fine for me. The other day it fell on the floor from my nightstand rather hard. Now, it only works while ON the charger, but it does not charge. It says Charging Paused: device is out of ideal temperature range. However, my phone is not hot. This has not gone away after two days, and I have tried a soft reset, as well as charging from my computer. The percentage charged says 100%, but will not stay on once its off the charger. HELP

Answer this question I have this problem too

I know it sounds silly, but one possibility is that "out of ideal temperature range" might be too COLD rather than too hot. With the approaching winter, I recently started getting that same message on my ZMax Pro, and the phone repeatedly would not reach full charge after many hours on the charger, but the phone was cold because the heat was not turned on the room and it was below 50 degrees F. Without even unplugging the charger, today I simply held the phone close to my body for 20 minutes or so to warm it up, and it began charging and quickly reached 100%. Somewhat in disbelief, I just now searched the web to see if anyone else has reported this strange behavior in a ZMax Pro and came across your post, so I thought I'd share my experience in case it helps anyone.

Well I only had my zmax for 2 weeks and I'm getting the same battery message when charging I don't have the issue of dropping it nor it being to cold or hot it's everytime I put it on the charger I will report this matter to my provider asap because these are the free phones they're giving out at these companies so thank you for your story

Hello. I too have a ZTE blade max and my issue started on the 3rd of December right after a phone call with my sister and there was a message that popped up on the screen stating the over temperature and the phone will shut down. Even at 90% of battery life the phone still continued to shut down in two minutes. I went to go visit my carrier and explain the issue with them and they said that by the phone being outdated the issue is with the battery and also since the battery can't be removed or replaced than this issue is going to happen. Now today I visited the location again and the agent advised me to dim the back light and keep the phone in battery save mode which keeps the battery from draining so quickly. No being at 76% the battery is holding up for now. My only issue is I don't have the money for an upgrade to a new phone. I like this phone and I never had any issues with it except the first time I bought the phone back in 2018 I didn't have a case for it so it slipped out of my shirt pocket and broke.

Hello I had this same problem. I the moment i plugged in the charger it says battery temp too high shutting down to cool; i was unable to charge the battery. I tried without charging cable and i used a battery temperature app and i was getting erratic readings like -2 F to 0 F and then when i would put in my sim card or try to use any apps it would shoot up to 180 F and shut off my phone. Eventually there was no more power and i was unable to charge my phone. I figured it was the temperature sensor getting loose from dropping the phone.

I thought the sensor was on the battery itself so i bought a new battery but still the same problem; i tried disconnecting various components liek camera, lcd screen, charging port, camera, to no avail.

How i fixed: I removed the motherboard itself and got a heatgun and heated up the motherboard to try and “reflow” the solder,

I laid it on the concrete with the motherboard upside down and heated it by pointing at the square heatsinks on the rear of the motherboard, i did this for less than 2 minutes, assembled everything and now my temperature is reading correctly at 86 F and i’m now currently charging my new battery.

Good luck!

TLDR; a solder or electrical connection got cracked or loose on the motherboard and it needs to be “reglued” back on by using heat
