The PB alus were notorious for having problem with the lower ram slot. On a faulty unit the ram stick installed in the lower slot is not seen by the computer. It's a harware issue and the only way to repair is a logic board replacement.

In you case the two beeps means that you try to use EDO memory. Are you sure that you have compatible memory for you PB ?

Computer beeps twice at startup

1. Two beeps means that EDO memory is installed in the RAM expansion slot. The

PowerBook does not accept EDO memory.

2. Replace RAM card(s) with known-good and compatible RAM and restart.

• If symptom repeats, replace logic board.

Hmm, I seem to remember something about the the PowerBooks having motherboard issues with memory. I think that Apple later said it was a defect. Have you taken it to an Apple store? They may be able to fix your problem. If not, come back here.
