The water temperature is backwards. Warm is hot, cold is hot

My washer will add hot water on cold, hot water on warm, hot water on everything. We have switched the hoses and still hot. We have turned off the hot and selected cold and the washer just hums not filling at all. We have taken to turning off our hot water tank and emptying it of hot water (showers, dish washer, etc.) in order to wash clothes on cold. It has ruined several loads of clothing with hot water!

Thank you all for your help. I tried all of the options mentioned and the Y is the only thing that worked. I had Sears Repairman (A and E Factory Repair Co.) come out today to fix it. He told me it was the screen clogged. He also changed the thermistor on my dryer. My washer still doesn't work hot and cold properly. I discovered after shrinking/ruining a load when the repairman left telling me it was "perfect now!" $247 later, we are back to the Y in the back! :-(

Got hot and cold water, the problem’s hot water comes out of the faucet with the blue shut off handle on the left.

Believe the problem’s the facet’s were put on backwards. Wonder if the colored handle on the faucet comes off

It sounds like the wires to the hot and cold solenoids have been switched.

This isn't a solution, more a workaround. Try connecting both hoses to the cold tap. You can buy a Y-shaped adapter to fit on the tap.

If it works, think of it as an upgrade - most new washers have cold fill only.

No new washers have cold fill only. Every washer currently made has hot and cold hookups. I sell and install them daily.

becky hoban, the hot and cold water inlet valves are located at the back of the washer. These valves receive a control signal from the Central Control Unit to manage the temperature of incoming water. The temperatures are determined by the specific wash cycle selected and a temperature sensor located in the wash tub. Since it only hums if you select the cold, I would check the little screen filter at the water inlet first. It is possible that it is clogged and does not allow cold water to enter. If that filter (screen)is okay, check the water inlet solenoids. you will need an ohmmeter for that. You can get the service manual for your washer from here for an explanation of the testing procedure. The water valve assembly is available at places like this. Hope this helps, good luck.

The magtag washer swaps the cold and hot on occasionally . Never changed hook up on water inlets. Then after it changes it goes back to normal.
