Can I upgrade to a HDD with over 750 GB?

I currently have dual harddrives in my Macbook, but one is corrupt and needs to be replaced. Is it possible to upgrade to a 1TB harddrive? I ask because in under the Upgrades section of the Unibody Macbook it says you can only upgrade up to 750 GB, but I haven't been able to find any backup sources and it just doesn't make sense to me why it can only take 750 GB.
