Once booted from the install disk run Tools->Disk Utility->Disk First Aid:Repair Permissions, then Disk Repair. Try to boot. If it wont do a safe (shift) boot. Since it will load in a different mac you could have an extension problem, a corrupt font or preference. Safe boot should get you around those. Make a new account and set it to boot to that. If that works you should use Migration Assistant to move your files, then delete the corrupt user.

ok how do you safe boot and is using the shift key or not

by

Hold the shift key down right after you press the power button, until you see the spinning gear, (wheel) then release.

The "shift key boot" does present as list of on screen commands, but immediately goes back to Apple logo only display. No way to input commands on the "monitor" mode. Have no disk connected, just the internal one. Any suggestions?

Wayne - Please use the Add Comment link for comments/questions/updates - this space is for answers only. I'm not tracking your comment... is this dialog from the new account, or, from your Apple Hardware Test Disk? If it's not from the AHT run that 2 or 3x and record the codes/dialogs it reports.
