MacBook wont start up, does not get past Apple logo!

A few days ago my macbook started acting strange; really slow and unresponsive.

At some point I got sick of it and restarted, after that it would not boot back up. It does not get past the apple logo and the spinning wheel thing, just remains in the start up screen and runs warm until the fan starts spinning.

I've already tried resetting the PRAM and SMC but to no avail.

If anybody has any more ideas on how to bring this thing back to life I would greatly appreciate the help!

There is just no way I can afford a new laptop right now and I need it, all my school/work stuff is on there.

Thank you all in advance!

Benjamin

Try a safe boot (shift boot) to see if it is an extension, preference, startup item or other software issue. If that fails the only way to further diagnose it is with your Hardware Disk, so pop for an external optical drive or replace the internal one.
