sodering a game slot

How detailed is the sodering when replacing the game slot? Anyone done it yet?

Hey Pam,

The feasibility of installing a new game slot really depends on how much soldering experience you have. The process requires desoldering then soldering 18 surface mount joints. As you can see in this guide, each of the solder pads are very close to each other, making it very possible to accidentally bridge two of the points. On the plus side, the new slot should be pretty easy to line up, as it sits nicely in its spot on the motherboard. This makes it easy to line up the metal contacts with the solder pads. Overall, if you are confident in your surface-mount soldering abilities, you should be able to do it. If you have never soldered before, this will be a pretty tough repair. If the device is beyond repair otherwise, though, it may be a good device to practice on!
