Wendy, it will work as a first aid. The rice will pull out the water. One of the things that can happen, is that the rice will swell up to a point where you can not easily remove it. Be careful at the dock connector end as well as the head phone jack. The Rice will not clean the logic board and other parts. So you may be experiencing corrosion failure down the line. I suggest that you disassemble the phone, and clean it. You can follow this guide. even so it was written for a 3G it applies to your phone as well. The guides to work on your phone are here Hope this helps, good luck.

I had to try to dry a smart phone that fell in a toilet (allegedly clean!). It was a Samsung Intercept, and I put it in rice and made sure it got sunlight and switched the rice and everything. Minimal functionality was restored, but there was still something wrong. Months later I tried to use it again, and everything was 100%. If you cannot seem to dry it up in a few days, don't throw it out! Some hard to reach wet spots could dry over time
