water damage, works, not charging but itunes finds.

I was dumb and decided to swim with my iPhone 4 (Verizon). I took it to a repair shop where they cleaned it and got it working. I guess they didn’t test to see if the new battery they put in would charge. That seems to be the only issue but it is a big one.

The phone works fine but it does not charge. I can plug it in to the wall charger and it will show that it is charging but it does not charge. I can watch the percentage decrease while on the charger. When I plug it in to the computer iTunes finds my phone but it does not charge.

I know it’s not the battery.

Please help,

danielleedeals, besides the possibility that there are issues with the charging circuit on the logic board, I would start by replacing the dock connector. The symptoms that you are describing can be caused by a faulty dock connector. Check this guideand see if it is something that you could repair. Hope this helps, good luck.

Just want to check before I replace the dock connector. If it is not the dock connector then that would mean the problem comes from the logic board. Now since everything else works on the phone does that bring the issue to the charging circuit. Is that repairable?

Swab the dock connector out with alcohol before replacing to see if that could be the problem. After water damage I have cleaned the dock connector and fixed over 50% of them without having to replace it. Everybody leans the board but they forget to clean the rest of the phone.
