On start up - with Apple logo, and "Save Boot" in upper right corner - not sure why that's there, but my password will not take, when it ask to Reset my password, my Apple ID is coming up with all Cap, even the "." comes up as a ">", so I can't even change my password.

Sounds like you damaged your keyboard. Safe boot happens when you hold down the shift key at startup, and apparently the laptop "thinks" the shift key is still down.
