I used it one evening, and by the next day, it wasn't working. The last time I used it, I put it into sleep mode. Since then, I haven't seen any signs of life from the console.

Could be a lot of things. And sound like southbridge issues.
But before going there, since you only used it for 1 day, do you still have warranty on it? If yes, bring it back and ask for a new one.
If not, take the power cable out. Wait for 10 minutes and put it back in, does it want to boot now?
Otherwise, open it up and measure the PSU. It should give you 12volts also in rest mode.
If it does, check the motherboard for shorts. If it’s fine, replace the southbridge.
replacing the southbridge requires soldering. If you don’t have experience with it, I would ask a local repair shop to do it for you.
