LCD Data Connector Broken. What do I do? HELP :)

Hi there,

I have accidentally broken the LCD data connector on my iMac motherboard whilst installing an SSD, which apart from this went successfully. I have limited soldering experience and was wondering what the best course of action would be. Where in the UK can this kind of repair be done? What is required? How much is it likely to cost? A lot of questions there but I really hope that someone can help.

Andy

do you mean the connector in step 7 of the display guide?

It is yes. My display connector looks slightly different however. My iMac is the 27inch (mid 2010). Some of the pins are broken off on the board and I will also need a new connector by the looks of things also. :(

sounds like this is the part you need...and a hot air gun, good soldering iron with a very fine tip, lens and nerves of steel. or a good tv repair man may be able to do it for you..there are plenty of corner shops all over the UK offering repairs, ask friends where they get their repairs done and go from there.

That looks like the right part. Thanks for all your help with this. Just need to find somewhere reliable to get it done now. I'll ask around. Any ideas on what someone would usually charge?

no idea..hopefully about £50 for just the soldering? I've got a friend who does my trickier jobs so I get mates rates..whereabouts are you in the UK, there are a few places in London specialising in Mac's and one in ?portsmouth, but I'm sure if you google something should pop up (a few online places are advertising £160!)

I'm from the Birmingham area. From your original advice I've contacted a few companies in London. I Have only had one reply so far with a price of £65 but I have to supply the connector also. If you could recommend a company that would be great. I'm sure they would be greateful of you sending work their way and you might get a cheaper repair next time you need one yourself. Aha :).
